Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Edward Krause (ranked 3616 p4p, 3674 weight class) and Rory Birdwhistle (ranked 344 p4p, 349 weight class). Birdwhistle comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Davidian - Machine Head kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Edward Krause! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Rory Birdwhistle! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Birdwhistle has closed the distance and engaged Krause in a clinch.
Krause swings away with an uppercut that misses.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Krause creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. A shot in the inside from Krause. Krause working aggressively here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Birdwhistle avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Krause has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Birdwhistle has Krause pulled in close to control his posture. Krause postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Birdwhistle had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Krause defends it easily. Birdwhistle wants to sweep but no luck. Birdwhistle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Birdwhistle slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Birdwhistle thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Birdwhistle throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Birdwhistle gets to mount! Krause was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Krause is in a horrible position here. Birdwhistle smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Birdwhistle is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Krause can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Krause is squirming around, avoiding Birdwhistle's attempts to control the action.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Birdwhistle throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Krause is desperately trying to improve his position but Birdwhistle has a good base and remains in mount. Krause is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes. Birdwhistle controlling from mount. Birdwhistle lands a nice shot to the head.
Birdwhistle has hold of Krause's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Krause manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Birdwhistle throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Krause because Birdwhistle loaded up on that one. This has been an exciting period of action! Krause tries to reverse the position but Birdwhistle maintains control. Birdwhistle blocks Krause's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Krause is trying to escape the mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Rory Birdwhistle dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Birdwhistle ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Krause moves away. Krause tries to counter with a takedown but Birdwhistle is quick to defend against it. Birdwhistle thows a left - swing and a miss! Birdwhistle cracks Krause with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Birdwhistle throws a head kick but Krause moves out of range.
Birdwhistle looks to land a left hand but Krause moved out of range nicely. Birdwhistle misses the shot to the body. Krause appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Birdwhistle throws an off balance right hand
and Krause counters with a nice double leg into guard. Our spies down at at The Forge 👊 inform us that Birdwhistle has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Krause working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Krause throws a big elbow that misses. Birdwhistle has his hands on Krause's head, controlling the position. Birdwhistle trying to control the position.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Birdwhistle in particular looking to stall. Krause flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
