PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Case Mack (ranked 3933 p4p, 3907 weight class) and Erik Chaves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Case Mack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erik Chaves!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chaves throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Mack stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Mack gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Chaves lands a right hook to the body.
Chaves lands with a good body shot.
Mack takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Chaves should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Chaves enables Mack to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Chaves manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Mack is standing up over Chaves. Chaves looks to escape but Mack dives into side control.

Mack is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Chaves will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Mack works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Mack is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Chaves knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Chaves avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Mack.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Check out the look on Mack's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mack is trying to get an arm triangle but Chaves is defending well.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chaves dodges the ground and pound from Mack.
Mack throws an elbow but Chaves slips to the side and avoids it well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Case Mack dominated that round.
That's time! Mack's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Chaves checks a leg kick.
Mack is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chaves can do to turn this around?
Mack swings for the body but Chaves moves out of range.

Mack shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mack showed some decent athleticism there.
Mack throws a strike but Chaves avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Mack wants to control from the top but Chaves keeps moving.
Case Mack overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Chaves manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mack seems keen to control Chaves's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chaves decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mack, up you get!

Mack throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Chaves to regain full guard.

Mack throws an elbow that misses. Chaves uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mack's guard. Nice move by Chaves!

Mack lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mack stands up from Chaves's guard - Mack perhaps looking for a knockout.
Chaves scores with a decent looking hook.
Chaves scores with a jab. Mack acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Chaves lands an overhand right.
Chaves with a nice cross.
Mack misses with a two punch combination.
It seemed like Chaves was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Chaves gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mack tries to free his leg and advance position but Chaves is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mack scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Mack is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Mack drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Chaves manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mack has Chaves in his guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mack is looking for a triangle but Chaves pushes his legs off easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Case Mack will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Chaves stuns Mack with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Chaves cracks Mack with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Mack drives through with a takedown into Chaves's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Mack will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Mack seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mack postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Chaves is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mack, into his guard.

Mack is adopting a defensive guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mack wants to hit a sweep here but Chaves passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mack there!
Mack is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Mack is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position.
Mack keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Erik Chaves has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mack tries to hold on but Chaves postures up.
Mack is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Chaves is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Mack is trying to escape the mount.
Mack is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mack is trying to stand.

Chaves gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Chaves jabs Mack to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Mack darts in looking for a takedown but Chaves gets double underhooks and turns Mack into the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mack tries a knee to the head but Chaves blocks it.
Case Mack is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Chaves is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Erik Chaves comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mack has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
