PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Abdullah Mamadou (ranked 4004 p4p, 4148 weight class) and Ali Rakhivokov (ranked 386 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ali Rakhivokov was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Abdullah Mamadou!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ali Rakhivokov!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rakhivokov fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Mamadou checks it well.

Rakhivokov moves into range and clinches up with Mamadou.
Mamadou has Rakhivokov pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rakhivokov manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Mamadou's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Rakhivokov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rakhivokov lands in his opponent's guard.
Mamadou is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rakhivokov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Rakhivokov gets to his feet. Mamadou looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Rakhivokov manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mamadou on his heels. He'll look to pass Mamadou's guard now, I'm sure.

Mamadou dives in and grabs Rakhivokov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rakhivokov pushes down on Mamadou's head and hops out.

Rakhivokov darts in and clinches Mamadou up against the cage.

Rakhivokov ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rakhivokov no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Mamadou stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rakhivokov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mamadou passes Rakhivokov's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Mamadou is working for a submission of some sort.
Rakhivokov is controlling Mamadou's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Rakhivokov is trying to stand up here but Mamadou is controlling him well.

Rakhivokov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mamadou pulls his head out easily.

Mamadou is trying to control the action in half guard but Rakhivokov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Mamadou wants to control but Rakhivokov is keeping him busy.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rakhivokov rushes Mamadou and presses him up against the cage.
Rakhivokov wants to take the fight to the mat but Mamadou manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Mamadou prevents Rakhivokov from breaking the clinch.
Rakhivokov presses Mamadou against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Rakhivokov tries to break the clinch but Mamadou is controlling the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Mamadou is pushing Rakhivokov up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Mamadou just leaning against Rakhivokov, taking a breather.
Mamadou seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Rakhivokov.

Mamadou pulls guard.

Rakhivokov stands up and waves to Mamadou to follow him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mamadou rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rakhivokov moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mamadou shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rakhivokov but Rakhivokov pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Mamadou shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rakhivokov as he avoids it easily.
Mamadou stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mamadou wants it to stay on the feet.

Rakhivokov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mamadou's guard.
Rakhivokov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rakhivokov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mamadou, pushing him back against the cage.

Mamadou tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rakhivokov smiles and moves away.

Mamadou tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rakhivokov paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rakhivokov tries to counter with a clinch but Mamadou shakes him off and moves away.
Mamadou fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mamadou is looking to clinch but Rakhivokov is avoiding it.

Mamadou gets caught flat footed, as Rakhivokov shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Mamadou is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rakhivokov throws a knee to the head but misses.
Mamadou tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rakhivokov just stands there and leans against the cage.
Mamadou is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rakhivokov pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Rakhivokov jumps into guard, dragging Mamadou to the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rakhivokov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Rakhivokov escapes and gets back to his feet.

Rakhivokov closes the distance and clinches.
Mamadou drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rakhivokov gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Mamadou escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rakhivokov pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mamadou seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Rakhivokov fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mamadou checks a leg kick.

and Rakhivokov moves into the clinch.

Rakhivokov has Mamadou pressed against the cage, preventing Mamadou from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Rakhivokov is working for takedown but Mamadou is calmly controlling the position for now.
Mamadou has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rakhivokov after a bit of a struggle.

Rakhivokov is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mamadou can't fight it off and eventually Rakhivokov manages to take the fight to the floor. Mamadou looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mamadou has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Rakhivokov off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Ali Rakhivokov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mamadou's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Rakhivokov wants to break free but Mamadou has control.

Mamadou breaks from the clinch.
Mamadou feints a jab promting Rakhivokov to slip. Mamadou then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Rakhivokov slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Mamadou keeps the fight on the outside.

Rakhivokov closes the distance and clinches.
Mamadou stops a takedown attempt from Rakhivokov.
Mamadou tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rakhivokov just stands there and leans against the cage.

Rakhivokov postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mamadou is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rakhivokov, into his guard.

Rakhivokov will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rakhivokov is looking for a triangle but Mamadou pushes his legs off easily.
Mamadou looking to sit in guard and control but Rakhivokov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mamadou looking for a sweep. Not yet Mamadou, not yet.

Mamadou looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mamadou is trying to keep Rakhivokov in close.
Mamadou is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mamadou not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rakhivokov is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mamadou is trying to control the position but Rakhivokov postures up.

Rakhivokov gets to his feet - Mamadou follows without any prompting.

Rakhivokov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rakhivokov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Mamadou wants to get back to his feet but Rakhivokov is dominant here and he's now got Mamadou's back!

A lull in the action here.

Rakhivokov has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Mamadou's body.

Rakhivokov working for a choke but Mamadou is defending well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rakhivokov is persistently looking for the submission but Mamadou is defending it well.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ali Rakhivokov.
I've got Rakhivokov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
