Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lorenzo Smashotti (ranked 4692 p4p, 24914 weight class) and Greg Sheppard (ranked 383 p4p, 440 weight class). Lorenzo Smashotti has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lorenzo Smashotti! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Greg Sheppard! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab from Sheppard misses. Sheppard showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Smashotti.
Sheppard throws a jab but it's blocked by Smashotti. Smashotti tries to bum rush Sheppard with a series of wild strikes but Sheppard uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Sheppard is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Smashotti tries to clinch up. Smashotti doesn't manage to clinch there - Sheppard circles away.
Sheppard gets tackled into the cage by Smashotti. Smashotti maintains the clinch. Sheppard is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Smashotti to keep the fight standing. Smashotti stops a takedown attempt from Sheppard.
Sheppard is working for takedown but Smashotti is calmly controlling the position for now. Lorenzo Smashotti has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Greg Sheppard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Decent striking displayed by Sheppard there. Smashotti lands the left hand. Sheppard throws a lazy right hand but Smashotti sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Sheppard slips a jab from Smashotti.

Sheppard shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smashotti defends it nicely. Smashotti definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Smashotti tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sheppard manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Good exchange - Sheppard coming out on top. Smashotti will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Smashotti ducks right into an uppercut from Sheppard. Smashotti tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sheppard swats him away and circles back towards the center. And Sheppard tries to counter it with a takedown but Smashotti pushes his down on his head and steps out.

and Sheppard counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smashotti won't be happy with that. This has been an exciting period of action! Sheppard working the head and body with strikes. Smashotti throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Smashotti holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. A lull in the action here as Sheppard stalls from top position. Sheppard in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Sheppard slows the pace down. Smashotti wants to get back to his feet. Sheppard is looking to take a break and control but Smashotti is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Sheppard controls the position from side control. Sheppard has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Smashotti pushes Sheppard away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Sheppard gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Smashotti sneaks out the side door and pushes Sheppard away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Sheppard scores with a nice right hand.

The fight stays on the outside here - Smashotti looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Smashotti misses with a double jab
and Sheppard counters with a single leg into guard. Smashotti didn't expect that.

Smashotti is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Smashotti tries to throw a body punch but Sheppard avoids it by throwing Smashotti back against the cage.
Sheppard breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A combination from Smashotti does no damage. And Sheppard tries to counter it with a takedown but Smashotti pushes his down on his head and steps out. Sheppard cracks Smashotti with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. and Sheppard counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Smashotti is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sheppard is controlling him.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Smashotti bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sheppard's guard.

Smashotti wants to get up but he can't break Sheppard's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Smashotti trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Smashotti is looking to work some ground and pound but Sheppard has wrist control. Smashotti trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sheppard's guard. Our spies down at at Ragnarok\'s Gym inform us that Sheppard has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smashotti postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Smashotti working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sheppard's head. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smashotti accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Smashotti postures up.

 The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. The fighters circling - Smashotti throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Sheppard takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

 Smashotti is rocked! Sheppard stays in close to Smashotti's body and controls the position. Oh Smashotti is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Smashotti is looking to stand back up but Sheppard counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Smashotti. Sheppard is taking a breather. Smashotti says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Smashotti is looking to escape. Sheppard lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Smashotti! More strikes land and this one is all over! Sheppard jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
