PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bingus Khan (ranked 1603 p4p, 1085 weight class) and John Geghan (ranked 185 p4p, 139 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Bingus Khan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Geghan! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Wagner Zegers and Nard Betker.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Geghan lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Khan at a distance.
Khan throws a left and a right that both miss
and Geghan counters with a left to the body. Khan throws a series of punches but Geghan moves out of range. Geghan is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Khan with a body shot. Geghan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Khan defends well and Geghan ends up having to push Khan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Khan throws a right and a left that Geghan avoids nicely. Khan on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Khan moves into the clinch. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. A right hook to the body lands for Geghan.
Geghan cracks Khan with a nice body shot. Geghan lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Geghan with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Geghan is struggling to control the position.
Geghan wants the takedown. Khan is fighting it off but Geghan persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Khan's guard against the cage. Khan is looking to stand up but Geghan isn't so interested in that idea.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Khan has control of Geghan's left arm, preventing Geghan from doing any damage. Geghan controls from within his opponent's guard. Geghan working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Geghan wants to control from the top but Khan keeps moving. Geghan throws a big elbow that misses. Khan preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup. Geghan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Khan keeping moving, preventing Geghan from controlling successfully.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Good standup being displayed there by Khan as he connects with a hook. Bingus Khan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Khan tries to bum rush Geghan with a series of wild strikes but Geghan uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Khan throws a combination. Geghan tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Khan takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Khan throws a left and a right that both miss

Geghan works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Khan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. A left lands for Geghan. Bingus Khan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Geghan avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Geghan jabbing away but nothing is landing. Khan misses with a looping right. Khan lands with an uppercut that bounces Geghan off the cage and back into range. Geghan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Khan's waist but Khan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Geghan off to one side. Khan throws a nice looking combination but Geghan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Khan with a nice cross. Geghan scores with the left hand. Khan knows he should have avoided that one. Geghan lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Geghan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Khan counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Bingus Khan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Geghan. Khan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Geghan scores with a sloppy right hand. Khan should have avoided that one. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Geghan throws a body shot but no joy.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Khan throws the left hand but Geghan avoids the punch easily. Geghan takes one to the side of the head.
Khan darts in and clinches Geghan up against the cage. Geghan blocking some punches.
Geghan is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Khan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. With the two fighters working up against the cage, Geghan just misses with a elbow thrown towards Khan's brow. Geghan controlling the action here for a moment.

Khan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Geghan walks into a straight right hand from Khan. Khan waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Geghan. Geghan uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Khan. Khan throws a shot from downtown. Geghan moves away and avoids it. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but John Geghan will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Geghan connects with a jab. Khan throws a hook to the side of Geghan's head but Geghan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Geghan ducks under a wild hook from Khan. Khan swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Khan stuffs the takedown. Khan swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Geghan.
Geghan manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Khan on his heels. He'll look to pass Khan's guard now, I'm sure. Geghan lands a couple of decent looking shots. Khan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Geghan throwing strikes but missing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Khan wants to get back to his feet but Geghan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Geghan trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Khan working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Geghan. Geghan lands a couple of digs. Geghan is looking to work some ground and pound but Khan has wrist control. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Geghan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
 The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Khan misses with a jab, cross combination.
Geghan uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Khan.
Khan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Geghan manages to avoid it. Geghan doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Geghan comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Khan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Khan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Khan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Geghan moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Geghan tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Khan has taken the fight to the clinch.
Khan tries to throw a body punch but Geghan avoids it by throwing Khan back against the cage. Khan can't find room to land a body shot as Geghan controls the action.

Geghan is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Khan tries to work over Geghan's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Geghan using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Khan has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Geghan is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Khan is keeping busy. Geghan working some nice short punches in the clinch. Geghan pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Still in the clinch, Khan scores with a nice short uppercut. Khan scores with a shot to the side of Geghan's head.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Khan can't find room to land a body shot as Geghan controls the action.
Geghan is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Khan is defending well for now. Khan misses with a shot to the kidneys.

and Geghan cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Geghan takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Geghan feints and as Khan raises his hands in defense, Geghan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Khan is trying to control the position but Geghan postures up.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Geghan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Khan is keeping the position for now. Geghan throwing strikes but missing. Geghan trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Khan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Geghan wants to pass the guard but Khan is keeping the position. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Geghan content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Geghan wants to control from the top but Khan keeps moving.
 The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Bingus Khan will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Geghan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Khan tries to avoid it but Geghan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Khan to the ground. Khan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. A punch combination from Khan misses.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Geghan cracks Khan with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Geghan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Geghan is looking to take a break and control but Khan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Khan wants to get back to his feet. Geghan throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Geghan trying to control the position but Khan is working away. Geghan throwing shots but missing, from side control. Geghan is chipping away with strikes.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Geghan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Khan keeps working. Geghan tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Both fighters are breathing heavily. An elbow from Geghan crashes against the mat.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Khan wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Geghan.
Geghan is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Khan can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Geghan is in the full mount, landing strikes. Khan is looking to get to half guard. Geghan drops a big elbow. That's hurt Khan! More shots from Geghan and the ref steps in! The fight is over!

A very excited looking John Geghan made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
