Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shaka Barnes (ranked 2468 p4p, 3099 weight class) and Demetrius Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shaka Barnes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Demetrius Alvarez! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Jorge Garcia and John Roberts.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barnes throws a series of punches but Alvarez avoids them all with ease.
Alvarez clinches. Alvarez goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Barnes tries to stall but Alvarez uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Barnes is trying to stall.
Alvarez is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Barnes can't fight it off and eventually Alvarez manages to take the fight to the floor. Barnes looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Alvarez advances position into side control! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Barnes is letting Alvarez control him for a moment. Alvarez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Barnes is not content to let Alvarez control the position.
 That's one minute gone in the round.
Alvarez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Alvarez throws a leg kick but Barnes sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Alvarez shoots in and bounces Barnes off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Alvarez passes easily into side control. Nice work. Barnes wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
 That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alvarez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Barnes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Alvarez misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The strikes coming from Alvarez are missing the target in this wave of attacks. A lull in the action here as Alvarez stalls from top position.
Alvarez has hold of Barnes's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Barnes seems comfortable defending it but Alvarez has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Barnes is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Barnes is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Alvarez couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Demetrius Alvarez!
