This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 43 wins and 56 losses; Dragon Li Chai! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 57 wins and 34 losses; Jisoo Oh! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shirou Masuda.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Chai tries to sprawl but Oh drives through with a takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Chai (0) vs (2) Oh We've been hearing good reports from Chai's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Chai trying to control but Oh postures up.
Oh prevents Chai from improving his position. Chai is trying to maintain the position but Oh is very close to passing his half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chai trying to get back to full guard but Oh takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!  That's one minute gone in the round. Chai is controlling an arm, preventing Oh from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Chai wants to hold on but Oh pushes him away. Oh takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Chai prevents Oh from taking his back. Chai can't escape the position.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Oh avoids the attempt from Chai to control. Oh controlling from the full mount. Chai wants to control but Oh is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chai is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Oh has taken his back.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Oh not allowing Chai to control his hands. Oh keeps control of the position easily here as Chai tries to buck him off.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. I really don't envy Chai right now.
Oh has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Chai's body.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Oh gets his hands free as Chai looks to control. Chai breaks Oh's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

 That's six minutes gone in the round. Oh is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Chai might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Oh is trying to keep Chai in close.

 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Chai is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Oh looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Chai is fighting to break Oh's control of his arms but Oh is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Chai pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Oh is keeping the position for now.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Chai wants to control from the top but Oh keeps moving. Oh looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Chai trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Chai preventing the sweep. Chai pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Oh is keeping the position for now.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Chai slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Chai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oh swivels though and keeps the full guard. Chai looking to sit in guard and control but Oh gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Chai (2) vs (10) Oh
Chai escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Oh gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Chai managing to control the position. Chai trying to control the position.
Oh showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Let's hope that Oh has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Chai has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Oh has passed into side control.

 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Oh slows the pace down. It looks like Oh might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Oh's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Chai is looking for a sweep. Oh slows the pace down. Chai sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Oh seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Chai tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Oh has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Score +3 for passing guard: Chai (2) vs (16) Oh Oh controlling from mount.
And that's the end of the fight! Oh wins on points by 16 to 2. After winning the bout, Jisoo Oh thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
