This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 27 wins and 13 losses; Saul Hunter! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 53 wins and 41 losses; Cesare Borgia! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Shimada and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Borgia gets a double leg takedown into Hunter's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Hunter (0) vs (2) Borgia Borgia slips nicely into half guard. Borgia trying to pass the guard but Hunter defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Borgia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hunter keeps working. Hunter is trying to control but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hunter is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Borgia is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Borgia not doing much here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Hunter wants to get back to full guard. Hunter is pressing down on Borgia's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Hunter has control of Borgia's left arm, preventing Borgia from doing any damage. Hunter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Borgia told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Borgia sitting in guard, not really doing much. Borgia trying to control the position from guard on top but Hunter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Borgia looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Hunter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Hunter (2) vs (2) Borgia Hunter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Hunter won't allow Borgia to sweep him here. Hunter engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Borgia pulls Hunter in close to prevent any damage. Hunter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Borgia tries to land a sweep but no joy.

 That's five minutes gone in the round. Hunter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Borgia keeping full guard, as Hunter tries to pass. Borgia has control of Hunter's left arm, preventing Hunter from doing any damage. Hunter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Borgia seems keen to control Hunter's posture. Borgia's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Hunter preventing the sweep.

Borgia isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hunter stacks Borgia on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hunter! Score +3 for passing guard: Hunter (5) vs (2) Borgia Borgia tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hunter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Borgia seems a little lost for a moment, as Hunter dominates the positioning. Borgia is trying to control Hunter's posture but Hunter avoids it. Borgia tries to buck Hunter off but Hunter is having none of it.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Hunter controlling the position. Borgia is trying to improve his position. Hunter is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Borgia's shoulder. That is not cool.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Borgia tries to buck Hunter off but Hunter is having none of it. Hunter is looking to take a break and control but Borgia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Borgia struggling a bit here. The referee asks Hunter politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hunter prefers to stall for the moment though. Borgia stuck in half guard on the bottom here. Hunter happy to just control the position for now.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Borgia is trying to get back to half guard. Hunter is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Borgia struggling a bit here.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Borgia keeping his opponent close. Borgia tries to get back to half guard but can't. You can see the frustration on Borgia's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Borgia tries to buck Hunter off but Hunter is having none of it.

Hunter seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Borgia for as long as he can get away with. Hunter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Borgia is looking to reverse the position.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Hunter wants to control but Borgia is keeping him busy. Hunter controls the position. Hunter continues to stall. Borgia tries to improve position but can't.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Borgia regains half guard. Hunter controlling the pace. Borgia is trying to get back to full guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Borgia has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hunter is working away from the top position though.
And that's the end of the fight! Hunter takes the fight on points by 5 to 2. After winning the bout, Saul Hunter thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
