Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Newby Staples (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luihu Pate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Sano and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pate moves into the clinch successfully.
Pate is pressed up against the cage. Staples has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pate down to the mat. Pate avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Pate shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Staples looks for a takedown but Pate sprawls well.
Staples connects with the punch.
Pate closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Staples is pressing down on Pate's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Pate trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Pate wants to control from the top but Staples keeps moving.

Staples creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Pate sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

You can see the frustration on Pate's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Pate tries to buck Staples off but Staples is having none of it.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Staples swats away the attempt to clinch by Pate.

Pate wants to pass to mount but Staples is defending the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pate might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Staples kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Luihu Pate dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pate has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Staples is working away from the top position though.

Staples has gone for a leg lock! Pate slips out almost immediately though and dives into Staples's guard.

Staples wants to get back to his feet but Pate is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Staples is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Staples is trying to control the action in half guard but Pate is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Staples is taking a breather. Pate says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
