Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mean Gean (ranked 1916 p4p, 2359 weight class) and Tatsura Onigawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tatsura Onigawa has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mean Gean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tatsura Onigawa!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gean closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Onigawa to the mat! Onigawa manages to get full guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Gean's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Onigawa is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gean pulls his head out easily.
Onigawa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gean is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Gean's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Onigawa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gean slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gean.
Onigawa is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Gean drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Gean is stalling in the full guard.

Onigawa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gean can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gean controls from within his opponent's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gean darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Onigawa scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Gean manages to mount him!
Gean controlling the pace for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mean Gean dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Onigawa gets a double leg takedown into Gean's guard.
Onigawa slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Gean is trying to control Onigawa's posture but Onigawa avoids it.
Mean Gean overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Onigawa working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
You can see the frustration on Gean's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
My spies in Cozad MMA Tokyo inform me that Onigawa has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Onigawa goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Gean has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Onigawa but great work by Gean.

Onigawa wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Gean has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Onigawa's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Onigawa is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Gean!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Mean Gean!
After winning the bout, Mean Gean thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
