Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Burton (ranked 673 p4p, 655 weight class) and Lian Belmiro (ranked 75 p4p, 70 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Burton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lian Belmiro! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Paulo Santos.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burton gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Belmiro to score an easy takedown into full guard. Burton seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Burton trying to keep a closed guard but Belmiro is proving a slippery customer.

Belmiro content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Belmiro working some strikes from top position. Belmiro has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Burton is trying to control the position but Belmiro postures up. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Belmiro working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well. Belmiro drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Burton dives on top into guard.
 The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Burton tries to free his leg and advance position but Belmiro is retaining full guard. Burton wants to control from the top but Belmiro keeps moving. Belmiro working a defensive guard here.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Burton wants to control but Belmiro is keeping him busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Belmiro tries to bench press Burton off him but Burton keeps the position. Burton trying to control the action but Belmiro is working from the bottom. You can see the frustration on Belmiro's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Belmiro prevents Burton from moving into mount.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Burton is looking to take a break and control but Belmiro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Belmiro is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Burton off and has taken his back! Belmiro is working the ground and pound. Can Burton escape?
Belmiro is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. I really don't envy Burton right now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Lian Belmiro dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Belmiro slips a jab from Burton. Burton needs to keep his hands up - Belmiro had a free shot at his head there. Burton ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Burton wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Burton scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Burton connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Belmiro's hands. Belmiro moves away from the strike by Burton. Belmiro is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Burton. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Burton throws a series of punches but Belmiro avoids them all with ease. Burton pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Burton lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Burton. The fighters circling - Burton throws out the jab but it was never going to land. A jab from Burton misses. Burton swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A nice side step and Belmiro releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Burton shoots for a takedown but Belmiro saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Belmiro paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Belmiro missing with a left hand there. Burton was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Belmiro works Burton's body with a nice hook. Belmiro throws a body shot but no joy.
Belmiro feints and as Burton raises his hands in defense, Belmiro changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Burton controls Belmiro momentarily but Belmiro frees himself. Belmiro wants to control from the top but Burton keeps moving. Lian Belmiro has got the better of the ground game so far. Belmiro is pushing down on Burton's leg trying to pass to half guard. Burton is fighting to maintain full guard but Belmiro has managed to sneak the leg through. Burton on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Burton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Belmiro content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Burton tries to roll over but Belmiro keeps him under control.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Belmiro connects with a nice short shot to Burton's temple. Belmiro looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Ground and pound from Belmiro.
Belmiro maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Burton could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Belmiro has cracked it and Burton is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Belmiro!
