Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damari Mcknight (ranked 2045 p4p, 2210 weight class) and Arnav Ray (ranked 237 p4p, 250 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Damari Mcknight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arnav Ray!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ray is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Ray tries to clinch up.

Mcknight shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Mcknight stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ray looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mcknight has managed to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcknight swings wildly with an uppercut but Ray uses good head movement to avoid it.
Ray takes an elbow to the forehead.
Mcknight content to slow the pace in the clinch.
We've been hearing reports that Mcknight has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Ray is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mcknight to keep the fight standing.

Mcknight tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Ray avoids it.

Mcknight's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

You can see the frustration on Ray's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mcknight looking to control but instead Ray has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ray is looking to control Mcknight's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ray avoid being mounted?
Ray felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Mcknight escapes and gets back to his feet.

Mcknight has Ray up against the cage in a clinch.

Mcknight pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mcknight fails to land with a series of punches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ray goes for a double leg but Mcknight avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mcknight continues to drive forward.

Mcknight unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Mcknight has clasped his hands together around Ray's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

The ground and pound from Mcknight seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Ray is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Mcknight scores with a couple of nice shots.

Damari Mcknight seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ray shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mcknight manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mcknight is looking to stand up but Ray isn't so interested in that idea.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ray gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mcknight has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ray is proving hard to escape from.
Mcknight will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Ray escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mcknight gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mcknight wants to stand and escape but instead Ray has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Damari Mcknight overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mcknight has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Mcknight wants to get back to his feet but Ray is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ray prevents Mcknight from getting back to his feet.

Ray is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mcknight wants to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Mcknight closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ray's guard.
Ray looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ray enables Mcknight to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ray manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mcknight accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Mcknight manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Mcknight - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Mcknight pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mcknight closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ray did well to prevent Mcknight getting side control.
Ray is trying to control but can't.

Ray is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mcknight pulls his head out easily.
Mcknight throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ray tries to get to full guard but Mcknight has control of the leg.
Mcknight throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Mcknight is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ray can do to turn this around?

Ray lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ray is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
