PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Li Chen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bando Jutsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chen kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Open Hapiness. Li Chen had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 171.6lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The key to victory for Li Chen has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chen leaves Jutsu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Jutsu feints and as Chen raises his hands in defense, Jutsu changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Chen is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Jutsu dives into side control.
Jutsu has control of an arm but Chen manages to advance to Jutsu's back!

Jutsu is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Chen is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Jutsu gets his way!

Chen is trying to get back to his feet but Jutsu has full control of the position and if anything, Chen has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Jutsu is trying to stick to Chen's back but Chen is turning into Jutsu. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Jutsu's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Chen.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jutsu cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

It looks like Li Chen has been cut.
Jutsu lands a big shot there that rocks Chen but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Li Chen's cut is getting worse.

Jutsu jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Chen manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Jutsu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Chen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Chen is looking to regain half guard here but Jutsu keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jutsu drops back looking for a leg! Chen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chen manages to kick Jutsu off! Jutsu jumps back into Chen's guard.

Jutsu drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jutsu jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Chen is trying to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Jutsu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
