PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Average Stan (ranked 2694 p4p, 25683 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Average Stan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Average Stan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stan tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Nice sprawl there from Stan as Jones shoots in.
A little feinted left hand from Stan on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Stan throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

It looks like Jon Jones has been cut.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Jones has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Stan fights it but they end up in guard.
Stan wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Jones manages to pass to side control.

Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Jones is working Stan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stan walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Stan throws a quick counter kick to the body but Jones avoids it.
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Stan circles away.
Jones tries to clinch up but Stan circles away and keeps his distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Stan.

Stan sneaks out the side door and pushes Jones away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Stan gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Stan wants to get back to his feet but Jones is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Stan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jones can do to turn this around?

Average Stan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Stan pushes Jones off and gets back to his feet.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Stan goes for a double leg but Jones avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jones continues to drive forward.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Jones throws the kick towards the body but Stan avoids it.
Stan shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Jones eats them both and turns towards Stan to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Stan manages to mount him!

Jones throws an elbow that misses. Stan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Stan!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jones pulls Stan in close to prevent any damage.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Jones fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stan as he avoids it easily.
Stan shoots in looking for a takedown. Jones tries to sprawl out of it but Stan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jones manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Stan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones wants to stall.

Stan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jones was covering up waiting for the punch and Stan finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Jones manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Stan wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Stan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Jones is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Stan dives into side control.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Average Stan.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
