PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dylan Smith (ranked 2510 p4p, 20220 weight class) and Darren Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes into the arena with Heave Away- The Fables blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dylan Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 27 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darren Dixon!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dixon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smith manages to avoid it.
Dixon misses with a wild body shot.
Dixon pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Dylan Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith shoots in but no luck this time.
Dixon is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dixon counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Nice defenses there by Smith.
Smith closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dixon circles away.
Dixon changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dylan Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dixon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Dixon misses with a wild body shot.
Dixon swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Dixon lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Smith feints and as Dixon raises his hands in defense, Smith changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dixon looking for a guillotine here but Smith defends easily.
Smith working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Dixon's head.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dixon is on top in guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Dixon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Smith pulls Dixon in close to prevent any damage.
Dixon postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Smith is controlling Dixon's posture.
Dixon missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Dixon throws a big elbow that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smith looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dixon is one step ahead there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smith is on top in guard.


Dixon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.
Smith chips away with some ground and pound.
Dixon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Smith on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Smith tries to get out of the position.
Dixon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Smith's head.
Dixon prevents Smith from improving his position.

Smith is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Dixon has latched onto it... Big trouble! Dixon pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Smith is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Dixon!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Darren Dixon!
