PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Xxx Xxx (ranked 5458 p4p, 22860 weight class) and Xxx Xxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xxx Xxx will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 148 - 31 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 157 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Fighter B tries for a takedown but Fighter A circles away easily

and Fighter A counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Fighter B!
Fighter B tries to improve position but can't.
Fighter A is staying tight to Fighter B's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Fighter B is looking for a sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee asks Fighter A politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Fighter A prefers to stall for the moment though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter A working away.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Fighter A controls the position from side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Fighter B throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fighter A's waist but Fighter A gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fighter B off to one side.
Fighter B misses with a takedown attempt - Fighter A sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Xxx Xxx has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xxx Xxx.

Fighter A shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Fighter A was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A in the domination position with Fighter B hanging on.
Fighter B tries to buck Fighter A off but Fighter A is having none of it.
Fighter A is staying tight to Fighter B's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Fighter B defending against the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Fighter A.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Fighter B is looking to reverse the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fighter B holds on to Fighter A's head and controls the position momentarily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Fighter B shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Fighter B was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Fighter A holds on to Fighter B's head and controls the position momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B blocks the strikes from Fighter A.
Fighter B scoring with punches and elbows.
Fighter A struggling a bit here.
Fighter B misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter A wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Fighter A decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fighter A is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fighter B can do to turn this around?
Fighter B trying to control from the bottom.
Fighter A content to control rather than advance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter A prevents Fighter B from improving his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter A trying to control the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nice takedown defense from Fighter A. No joy for Fighter B on that attempt.
Fighter A thinks about countering with a body kick.

Fighter B decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fighter B working the head and body with strikes.
Fighter A controlling the position for now.
Fighter A wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Fighter B scores with a couple of nice shots.
Fighter B throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Fighter A to regain full guard.
Fighter B loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Fighter B throws a strike but Fighter A rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Fighter A engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B working a defensive guard here.
Fighter A stays in close to Fighter B's body and controls the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter A has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Fighter B shoots in looking for a takedown. Fighter A tries to sprawl out of it but Fighter B keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fighter A manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Fighter A appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Fighter B throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Fighter A drops down looking for a counter takedown but Fighter B sprawls and moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter B dives in and grabs Fighter A's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fighter A pushes down on Fighter B's head and hops out.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Fighter B.
Xxx Xxx has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xxx Xxx.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter B doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Fighter A counters with a good, hard body kick but Fighter B shrugs it off.

Fighter A shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Fighter B napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Fighter A controls the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A working away.
Fighter A controlling from side mount.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice sprawl there from Fighter B as Fighter A shoots in.
Fighter B steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Nice takedown defense from Fighter A. No joy for Fighter B on that attempt.
And Fighter A counters with a quick kick to the body but Fighter B blocks it.
Fighter A takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Fighter A shoots and misses
and Fighter B counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Fighter A is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Fighter A closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Fighter B to the mat! Fighter B manages to get full guard.
Fighter A is stalling in the full guard.
Xxx Xxx is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that's the end of the fight!
Xxx Xxx showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fighter A has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
