PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jordi Foz (ranked 5008 p4p, 4146 weight class) and Jabari Mcdowell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jordi Foz has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jordi Foz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jabari Mcdowell!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mcdowell tries to avoid it but Foz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mcdowell to the ground. Mcdowell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Mcdowell! But no joy.
Foz shoots for a takedown but Mcdowell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mcdowell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mcdowell wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jordi Foz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mcdowell throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Foz tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mcdowell is in Foz's guard.

Foz is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Mcdowell presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Mcdowell gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Foz looking to control.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mcdowell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Foz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mcdowell is one step ahead there.
Foz has momentary wrist control but Mcdowell slips an elbow through the middle.
Foz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mcdowell working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Mcdowell trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Mcdowell postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Mcdowell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Foz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mcdowell has Foz in his guard.

Foz wants to control from the top but Mcdowell keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Foz drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mcdowell dives on top into guard.

Mcdowell throws a big right hand that misses.

Mcdowell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Foz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mcdowell is looking to work some ground and pound but Foz has wrist control.
Foz utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mcdowell connects with a couple of short punches.

Foz manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Foz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mcdowell rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Foz counters with a head kick. That will keep Mcdowell thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Foz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mcdowell paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mcdowell looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Foz throws a right and a left that both miss.
Foz is breathing heavily.

Mcdowell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mcdowell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Foz taking punishment in the form of punches.
Mcdowell throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Mcdowell working the body and head with strikes.

Mcdowell is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Foz looks calm but he's in trouble here. Mcdowell gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Foz is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Mcdowell lets go of the hold and Foz can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jabari Mcdowell!
In his post fight interview, Jabari Mcdowell started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
