PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wala Sapi (ranked 23463 p4p, 23243 weight class) and Higanti Libat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wala Sapi had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 71 - 62 - 15, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 60 - 81 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Sapi shoots in and drives through. Libat sprawls well.

Sapi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Libat is trying to defend but Sapi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Libat moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi sitting in guard here, content to control.
Libat bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sapi's guard.

Libat controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like Libat might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Libat works over Sapi with some ground and pound from guard.
Sapi pulls Libat in close to prevent any damage.
Sapi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Libat controls the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapi goes for a double leg but Libat avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Libat continues to drive forward.
Sapi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Libat avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wala Sapi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sapi prevents Libat from breaking the clinch.

Sapi pulls Libat into guard.
Sapi pulls Libat in close to his closed guard and prevents Libat from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Libat is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sapi slaps away a takedown attempt from Libat, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A little feinted left hand from Sapi on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Libat thows a body kick. Sapi tries to catch it but that hurt him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Libat keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Libat steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Libat is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sapi's half guard.
Sapi desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Libat with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Libat wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sapi keeps working.
Libat controlling the pace.
Sapi keeping hold of Libat's head, controlling as best he can.

Sapi is trying to control but can't.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Libat connects with a body shot that sends Sapi's belly button to the back.
Libat tries to land a front kick but Sapi steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Sapi throws a counter high kick but Libat was just alert enough to avoid it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Libat fails with the takedown

and Sapi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Libat's guard.
Sapi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Sapi is fighting to break Libat's control of his arms but Libat is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Higanti Libat showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Libat throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Libat displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sapi.
Libat has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Libat closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sapi quickly recovers to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Libat avoids the attempt from Sapi to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sapi is in a horrible position here. Libat smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Higanti Libat is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Higanti Libat comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Libat has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
