PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Way Nada (ranked 23499 p4p, 23559 weight class) and Yawa Kiang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 71 - 71 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 49 - 93 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Nada throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kiang's waist but Kiang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nada off to one side. Nada fails with the takedown.
Kiang decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kiang is taking a breather. Nada says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Nada is trying is best to control the position here. Kiang keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
 The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Horrible takedown attempt by Nada or perhaps it was just good defense by Kiang, which made it look bad. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Way Nada. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kiang avoids the head kick by Nada.
Kiang now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Kiang fails with a takedown attempt. Nada appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
 That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nada did well to prevent Kiang getting side control. Nada tries to kick Kiang off in order to stand up. Kiang Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. Nada wants to control but Kiang postures up. Nada holds on to Kiang's head and controls the position momentarily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nada is trying to control Kiang's posture but Kiang avoids it. Nada manages to get back to half guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Nada wants to control but Kiang is keeping busy.
Nada holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Nada moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Nada is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Yawa Kiang dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Nada closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kiang quickly recovers to half guard. Kiang trying to control but Nada postures up.
Nada with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
 That's one minute gone in the round. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
 The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Nada darts in looking for a takedown but Kiang gets double underhooks and turns Nada into the cage. Kiang is trying to drag Nada to the mat but Nada just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Nada gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kiang.
 That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang jumps into guard, dragging Nada to the mat.
Nada looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Kiang is trying to control the position but Nada postures up.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Kiang keeping moving, preventing Nada from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kiang striking off his back but it's not causing Nada any problems. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Nada wants to control from the top but Kiang keeps moving. Kiang pulls Nada in close to prevent any damage. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Way Nada dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Nada shoots in for a takedown but Kiang shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Kiang lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Kiang keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nada shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Kiang counters with a body kick that stops Nada in his tracks momentarily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Way Nada. That's going to take a lot out of him.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Nada shoots in for a takedown but Kiang shows good takedown defense. Kiang raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Nada throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kiang was covering up waiting for the punch and Nada finishes the takedown easily into guard. Nada wants to control from the top but Kiang keeps moving. Way Nada overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Nada is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kiang is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Kiang tries to strike from the bottom.
Kiang tries to land a sweep but no joy. Kiang preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Kiang is controlling Nada's posture.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
 That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nada shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Kiang is looking to control Nada's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kiang avoid being mounted? Nada controlling the action here.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Nada wants to control but Kiang is keeping him busy. Well, if Nada is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight� I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza� Yum. Can't wait.

And that's the end of the fight! Way Nada showed his dominance in that final round. I think Nada has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
