PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Masutatsu Oyama (ranked 691 p4p, 1673 weight class) and Jesse Custer (ranked 90 p4p, 203 weight class). Jesse Custer struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.9lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Masutatsu Oyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse Custer!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Custer throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Oyama was covering up waiting for the punch and Custer finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Custer decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Oyama definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Custer tries to clinch but Oyama is having none of it.

Custer moves into the clinch successfully.
Custer throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Custer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Oyama forces Custer back against the cage and clinches.
Oyama wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Custer has him pressed against the cage.

Custer has clasped his hands together around Oyama's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Custer is taking a breather. Oyama says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Oyama has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Custer has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Oyama wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Oyama is trying to push Custer away but Custer has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Custer is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Custer has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Oyama regains guard immediately.

Oyama manages to escape and get back to his feet.

The fight stays on the outside here - Oyama looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Oyama throws a series of punches but Custer avoids them all with ease.

Oyama is looking to get back to his feet here but Custer is keeping cool and he's managed to take Oyama's back.

Oyama is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Custer off. It looks like it's working - Custer slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Oyama displaying calm under pressure there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Custer ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Custer no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Custer has his feet on Oyama's thighs here. He's pushed Oyama off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Oyama screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
