Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mertis Falandas (ranked 924 p4p, 1446 weight class) and Nakagome Kakuzo (ranked 114 p4p, 184 weight class). Falandas's entrance music is Feed the Machine. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nakagome Kakuzo!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kakuzo throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Kakuzo lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Falandas forces Kakuzo back against the cage and clinches.
Falandas blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Falandas tries a knee to the head but Kakuzo blocks it.
Kakuzo managing to block the knees to the body from Falandas.
Falandas scores with a knee to the head.
It looks like Nakagome Kakuzo has been cut.
Kakuzo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Falandas lands a shot to the body.
Falandas prevents a body shot from Kakuzo.
Falandas makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Falandas misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Kakuzo.
A nice right hand lands inside from Falandas.

Falandas connects with a nasty looking knee right to Kakuzo's face.
Kakuzo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Falandas is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A head punch on the inside from Falandas fails to land.
Kakuzo lands a nice uppercut.

Kakuzo tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Falandas tries to land knees in the clinch but Kakuzo avoids the damage to the body.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Kakuzo has Falandas pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kakuzo pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Falandas tumbling to the mat - Kakuzo dives into Falandas's guard.
Falandas seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Kakuzo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kakuzo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Kakuzo tries to free his leg and advance position but Falandas is retaining full guard.
Kakuzo postures up in Falandas's guard and throws a big left but Falandas blocks it.

Kakuzo is pushing down on Falandas's leg trying to pass to half guard. Falandas is fighting to maintain full guard but Kakuzo has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kakuzo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Falandas haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Falandas is staying active underneath Kakuzo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kakuzo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kakuzo drops an elbow to the side of Falandas's head.
Kakuzo wants to work for an arm triangle but Falandas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Mertis Falandas will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Nakagome Kakuzo's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Kakuzo wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kakuzo forces Falandas back against the cage and clinches.
Kakuzo tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Kakuzo misses with a hook from the clinch.
Mertis Falandas has scored more points in the clinch so far.
Falandas works on Kakuzo's body with a couple of short punches.
Falandas stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Falandas goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Falandas looking to improve position, pressing down on Kakuzo's thigh with his hand. Kakuzo seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Falandas paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Falandas's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Kakuzo picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
