This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 17 wins and 6 losses; Yuki Shimada! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 8 losses; Devin Ecker! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Eddie Farnsworth.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Shimada tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ecker defends well and Shimada ends up having to push Ecker into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Shimada drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ecker gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Shimada has Ecker pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ecker manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yuki Shimada. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ecker manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Ecker tries to land a sweep but no joy. Ecker trying to keep a closed guard but Shimada is proving a slippery customer.
Shimada won't allow Ecker to sweep him here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shimada stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ecker swivels though and keeps the full guard. Ecker bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shimada's guard. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Ecker working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Ecker is looking to sweep but instead, Shimada has passed into half guard.
Still in half guard, Shimada seems content to control. Ecker moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Shimada preventing the sweep.

 That's six minutes gone in the round. Ecker wants to improve his position but Shimada is controlling well.
Shimada seems to be working for a kimura but Ecker defends the submission attempt. Ecker tries to roll over but Shimada keeps him under control. Shimada is keen to just control but Ecker is a slippery customer. Ecker is trying to get back to full guard. Shimada is trying to control. Ecker wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Shimada passes the guard and advances to mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Shimada (7) vs (4) Ecker Shimada takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Ecker working to try and regain half guard.
Ecker is squirming around, avoiding Shimada's attempts to control the action. Ecker regains half guard. Ecker is looking for a sweep. Shimada is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Ecker gets back to full guard.
Shimada slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Ecker managing to control the position. Ecker working a defensive guard but Shimada manages to pass into side control anyway.
Score +3 for passing guard: Shimada (10) vs (4) Ecker Shimada wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ecker keeps working.
Shimada tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shimada has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Shimada is looking to take a break and control but Ecker is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ecker tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shimada wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Ecker is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Ecker is not content to let Shimada control the position. Ecker is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Shimada's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Shimada stalling away here and it's allowed Ecker to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ecker is on top in guard.

Ecker looking to improve position, pressing down on Shimada's thigh with his hand. Shimada seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Ecker paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Ecker's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Shimada picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
