PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Josee Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chung Riddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Josee Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Chung Riddell!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, William Gold and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riddell misses with a head kick.

Riddell clinches up with Aldo and pushes him back against the cage.
Aldo is working for takedown but Riddell is calmly controlling the position for now.

Aldo pulls guard effortlessly.

Aldo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Aldo is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Riddell trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Riddell won't allow Aldo to sweep him here.

Aldo had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Riddell is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Aldo Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Riddell's back instead.
Riddell controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Riddell breaks Aldo's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Aldo is looking for a triangle but Riddell pushes his legs off easily.
Riddell would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Riddell is working Aldo over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Riddell chips away with some ground and pound.
Riddell trying to control but Aldo is working from the bottom.
Aldo trying to keep a closed guard but Riddell is proving a slippery customer.

Riddell stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Riddell gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Riddell breaks from the clinch.
Aldo lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Chung Riddell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A head kick misses from Aldo.
Aldo tries to clinch but Riddell moves out of range.
Aldo clinches but Riddell breaks the clinch
and Riddell counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Aldo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Riddell uses from the top position.
Riddell is in close to Aldo's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Aldo is working an open guard so Riddell takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Riddell closes the distance and clinches.
Riddell is pressed up against the cage. Aldo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Riddell down to the mat. Riddell avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Riddell lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Riddell has Aldo pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Riddell pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Aldo tumbling to the mat - Riddell dives into Aldo's guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Aldo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Aldo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Riddell tries to free his leg and advance position but Aldo is retaining full guard.
Aldo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Riddell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Aldo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
enabling Riddell to counter with a crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chung Riddell dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Aldo looks for a takedown but Riddell sprawls well.
Aldo avoids a punch combination nicely.
Aldo doesn't manage to clinch there - Riddell circles away.
Riddell goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Riddell scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Riddell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Aldo.
Aldo has a takedown stuffed.
Aldo shoots in and drives through. Riddell sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josee Aldo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Riddell postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aldo is working for a rear naked choke. Riddell is not defending it well and Aldo has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Riddell refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Riddell's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
