PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Xxx Xxx (ranked 5448 p4p, 22824 weight class) and Xxx Xxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xxx Xxx could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Xxx Xxx's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 151 - 31 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 160 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Fighter A shoots in and gets a takedown into Fighter B's guard.
Fighter B is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fighter B has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Fighter B is trying to control the position but Fighter A postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter A's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Fighter B is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fighter B controls Fighter A momentarily but Fighter A frees himself.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter A slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Fighter A closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fighter B circles away.
Fighter B thinks about the counter body kick.
Fighter B throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fighter A's waist but Fighter A gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fighter B off to one side.
It appears Fighter A was looking to counter with a kick there.

Fighter B closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Fighter B lands in his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Fighter B throws a big right hand that misses.
Fighter B looking to pass the guard.
Fighter B working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Fighter A trying to control the position here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Fighter B in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Fighter B tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fighter A sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fighter B somewhat.
And Fighter A counters with a quick kick to the body but Fighter B blocks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Fighter B feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Fighter A is pulling down on Fighter B's head. It's preventing any offense from Fighter B, at least for the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter A's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Xxx Xxx will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Fighter B throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Fighter B misses with a takedown attempt
and Fighter A counters with a good, hard body kick but Fighter B shrugs it off.

Fighter B shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Fighter A napping and manages to drive through into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Fighter A wants to control but Fighter B postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter B misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Fighter B fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Fighter B landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter B working away.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Fighter B sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Fighter A is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Fighter A gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Fighter A is trying is best to control the position here.
Xxx Xxx has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fighter A avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Fighter B.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Fighter B with a lazy takedown attempt
and Fighter A counters with a series of strikes. Fighter B will be more careful next time no doubt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Fighter A defends it nicely.
Xxx Xxx has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xxx Xxx.
Fighter A leaves Fighter B with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fighter A pinned against the cage. Fighter A gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Fighter B shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Fighter B throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fighter A's waist but Fighter A gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fighter B off to one side.
Fighter A jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Fighter A scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Fighter A takes a little break here. Fighter B wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter B can't do much from the bottom here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Fighter B goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Fighter B changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fighter A tries to avoid it but Fighter B manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fighter A to the ground. Fighter A escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fighter A is looking to counter with head kicks.
Fighter B looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fighter A is fending him off so far but Fighter B persists. Nope, Fighter A circles away and we're back to standing.
Fighter A jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Fighter B gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Fighter A to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fighter B is pulling down on Fighter A's head. It's preventing any offense from Fighter A, at least for the moment.
Fighter A not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Further stalling from Fighter A.
Fighter B trying to control the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fighter A is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Fighter B shoots in for a takedown but Fighter A shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Fighter A quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Xxx Xxx has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xxx Xxx.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B fails with the takedown.
Fighter A displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Fighter B.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Fighter A.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Fighter A darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fighter A working Fighter B over with strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Xxx Xxx showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fighter A has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
