PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shock Wave (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jermaine Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shock Wave!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jermaine Williams!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams swats away the attempt to clinch by Wave.
Wave is looking to clinch but Williams is avoiding it.
Shock Wave seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Williams fails with an attempt to clinch.
Wave misses with a double jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wave throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Williams stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Wave follows into mount!


It looks like Jermaine Williams has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wave avoids the attempt from Williams to control.

Williams might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wave kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Wave controlling his opponent.
Wave's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Williams is trying desperately to improve position.
Williams wants to hold on but Wave pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wave wants to control the pace but Williams is squirming around nicely.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Williams tries to lock up and control but Wave gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jermaine Williams just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wave misses with a head kick.
Williams keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Williams feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Williams won't allow Wave to get back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A swing and a miss from Wave.
Wave tries to land a front kick but Williams steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Williams slips a jab from Wave.
Wave doesn't manage to clinch there - Williams circles away.
Wave tries a head kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shock Wave dominated that round.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Wave looking for a sweep. Not yet Wave, not yet.

Williams slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Williams wants to control from the top but Wave keeps moving.
Williams stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wave swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Williams shoots in for a takedown but Wave shows good takedown defense.

and Williams counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Williams wants to control from the top but Wave keeps moving.
Wave is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Williams is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Williams trying to control the position from guard on top but Wave is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wave throws a sloppy head kick

and Williams counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wave looking for a guillotine here but Williams defends easily.
Williams trying to control but Wave is working from the bottom.

Williams thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Wave will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Williams trying to control the position from guard on top but Wave is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wave thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Wave throws a lazy head kick

and Williams counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Wave!
Wave wants to control but Williams is having none of it.
Williams looking to control but Wave is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Williams prevents Wave from getting the reversal.
Wave is squirming around, avoiding Williams's attempts to control the action.
Williams sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jermaine Williams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Williams shoots in looking for a takedown. Wave tries to sprawl out of it but Williams keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wave manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Williams holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Wave wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Wave is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Wave wants to break the clinch but can't.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Williams has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wave is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wave wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Williams has picked Wave up - he's going for a ride! Williams dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Williams trying to control the action but Wave is working from the bottom.

Wave looking for submissions off his back.
Wave is staying active underneath Williams, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Williams is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wave is just riding it out for now. Williams eventually gives up the hold.

Williams in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Wave tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Williams!
