PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wala Sapi (ranked 23423 p4p, 23519 weight class) and Yawa Kiang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wala Sapi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 71 - 64 - 16, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 51 - 94 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kiang.
Kiang tries for a takedown but Sapi circles away easily
and Sapi counters with a lovely shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sapi pinned against the cage. Sapi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Wala Sapi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yawa Kiang.

Kiang fails with a takedown attempt.
Kiang throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sapi's waist but Sapi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kiang off to one side.
Kiang shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kiang displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sapi.
Kiang doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Sapi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kiang to the mat! Kiang manages to get full guard.
Kiang tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sapi's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Sapi stopping the sweep attempt from Kiang.
Kiang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sapi controls the pace.

Sapi postures up.
Sapi is stalling in the full guard.
Kiang pulls Sapi in close to his closed guard and prevents Sapi from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kiang looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Kiang stopping the sweep attempt from Sapi.
Sapi is pulling down on Kiang's head to control his posture.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi controls Kiang momentarily but Kiang frees himself.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Sapi shoots in but no luck this time.
Kiang replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Sapi blocks it well.

Kiang gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sapi to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Sapi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang is trying to keep Sapi in close.
Kiang controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kiang controls Sapi momentarily but Sapi frees himself.
Kiang is adopting a defensive guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kiang is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sapi throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Kiang looking to score a takedown here. Sapi is defending well but Kiang drives through and ends up in Sapi's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapi being controlled here, momentarily.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sapi pulls Kiang in close to prevent any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sapi's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Sapi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kiang can do to turn this around?
Kiang looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Wala Sapi will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Sapi shoots in but Kiang avoids the takedown attempt easily.
As Sapi backs off Kiang throws a huge counter combo but Sapi manages to avoid it all.
Kiang is looking to land body kicks.
Kiang tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sapi swivels and escapes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kiang counters with a series of strikes. Sapi will be more careful next time no doubt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sapi swivels and escapes.
Sapi throws a big counter combination but Kiang scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Kiang feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kiang wants to control from the top but Sapi keeps moving.
Sapi pulls Kiang in close to prevent any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sapi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kiang is one step ahead there.
Sapi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kiang controls the pace.

Sapi keeping moving, preventing Kiang from controlling successfully.
Kiang won't allow Sapi to sweep him here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sapi shoots in and drives through. Kiang sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wala Sapi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kiang shoots in looking for a takedown. Sapi tries to sprawl out of it but Kiang keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sapi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sapi appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wala Sapi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sapi.
Kiang steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yawa Kiang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sapi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
