Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Omar Afzal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Elias Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Afzal tries for a takedown but Mercer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mercer lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Mercer defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Afzal.
Afzal closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Afzal is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Mercer as he works his way to full guard.
Afzal wants to pass the guard but Mercer is keeping the position.
Afzal is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mercer is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mercer has escaped and now he's on top!
Mercer wanted to stand there but Afzal had control of the position.
Afzal wants to sweep but no luck.
Afzal working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mercer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Afzal is tightening it up a little... Mercer has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Mercer reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Mercer taps out! Nice BJJ there by Afzal!
