PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gary Lanier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lanier comes to the cage accompanied by Trapt-Headstrong. The key to victory for Gary Lanier has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gary Lanier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Ross!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Ross. No joy for Lanier on that attempt.
Ross has his takedown stuffed

and Lanier counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Ross trying to keep a closed guard but Lanier is proving a slippery customer.
Ross is pulling down on Lanier's head to control his posture.

Ross working for submissions but it's allowed Lanier to get to half guard.

Ross is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Lanier pulls his head out easily.
Ross works his way to full guard. Good work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Ross looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Ross working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Lanier has passed into half guard!
Lanier looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ross with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Ross tries to roll over but Lanier keeps him under control.
Ross won't allow Lanier to pass to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ross is doing well to control the position and prevent Lanier from advancing to side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ross trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Lanier manages to pass to mount!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ross really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lanier avoids the attempt from Ross to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary Lanier dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Ross takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Ross wants to take a breather but Lanier is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Despite being in the dominant position, Bob Ross just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ross closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ross lands in his opponent's guard.

Lanier keeping moving, preventing Ross from controlling successfully.
Ross might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lanier kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Ross's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Lanier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ross in particular looking to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Ross showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Ross shoots and misses
and Lanier counters with a left and a right that stings Ross.
Lanier shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ross counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ross controlling from the top position.

Ross thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lanier tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ross not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Lanier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ross controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Lanier working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ross doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ross manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ross is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ross trying to control but Lanier is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

and Lanier counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Bob Ross comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ross has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
