PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darren Kidman (ranked 4103 p4p, 4056 weight class) and Romeo Meza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darren Kidman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Romeo Meza!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Darius Henderson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Kidman. No joy for Meza on that attempt.
Meza stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Meza wants it to stay on the feet.
Nice sprawl there from Kidman as Meza shoots in.

Meza misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kidman.
Kidman feinted with a counter takedown.
Kidman shoots for a takedown but Meza saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darren Kidman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No joy there for Kidman, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kidman shoots for a double leg takedown but Meza sprawls well. He's pushed Kidman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Meza throws a leg kick
and Kidman counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Meza throws a head kick but Kidman moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kidman has a takedown stuffed.

Meza closes the distance and clinches.
Kidman could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Meza looking to slow down the pace here.
Meza wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Kidman keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Meza's efforts to push away.
Meza tries to pull guard but Kidman forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Kidman pulls guard successfully.

Kidman wriggles free and stands up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Meza shoots in looking for a takedown but Kidman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Meza's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Meza stuffs the takedown attempt from Kidman. Kidman gets slowly back to his feet.
Meza misses with a wild combination.
Meza throws a head kick but Kidman moves out of range.
Kidman appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Kidman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Meza as he jumps to the side.

Meza dives in and scores a takedown into Kidman's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Meza stands and throws Kidman's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Kidman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Meza on the ground.
Kidman is looking to reverse the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kidman dodges the ground and pound from Meza.
Meza in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Meza stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Kidman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Meza tries to avoid it but Kidman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Meza to the ground. Meza escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kidman is breathing heavily.
Meza on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Meza feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kidman is looking to stand back up but Meza counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Kidman.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kidman is trying to control but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kidman blocking the ground and pound attempt from Meza.
Meza passes the guard and advances to mount!
Meza tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Meza has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Meza working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kidman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Meza has isolated one of Kidman's arms. Kidman looking to fight him off but Meza twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
