The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Owen shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Owen was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
A lull in the action here.
Owen landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owen looks up at the clock and then as Firmino takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Owen smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Owen has hold of Firmino's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Firmino tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Owen cranks the arm and Firmino screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Firmino, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jerome Owen!
