GFY 128 The Short Waiter PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 82 wins and 36 losses; Jackson Hole! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 14 losses; Xicko Loco! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Loco has Hole up against the ropes in a clinch.
Hole has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Loco avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Loco looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Hole is working for takedown but Loco is calmly controlling the position for now.
Loco decides to pull guard. Loco is adopting a defensive guard. Hole sitting in guard here, content to control. Hole trying to control but Loco is working from the bottom. Hole slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hole preventing the sweep. Hole trying to control the position from guard on top but Loco is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hole is really struggling to control Loco but he's trying to hold on to the position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Hole stays in close to Loco's body and controls the position. Hole's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Loco looking for a sweep. Not yet Loco, not yet. Loco is trying to control the position but Hole postures up. Hole wants to control from the top but Loco keeps moving. Hole not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Loco looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Hole trying to control but Loco is working from the bottom. Hole showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Hole trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Loco is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Loco can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hole controls the pace. Hole stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Loco swivels though and keeps the full guard. Hole won't allow Loco to sweep him here. Hole stands and throws Loco's legs to the side, diving into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Hole (3) vs (0) Loco Hole trying to control the position but Loco is working away.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Loco's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Hole trying to control the action but Loco is working from the bottom. Loco tries to improve position but can't. Hole controlling from side mount. Loco tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hole wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Hole controlling the position from side mount. Hole trying to control the action but Loco is working from the bottom. Loco is letting Hole control him for a moment. Loco tries to bench press Hole off him but Hole keeps the position. Loco is not content to let Hole control the position.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Loco is trying to escape the position but Hole is controlling the position. Loco prevents Hole from improving position. Hole is looking to take a break and control but Loco is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Hole content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Hole trying to control the action but Loco is working from the bottom.
Hole thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Hole moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Loco is looking for a sweep. Loco is letting Hole control him for a moment.
Hole swings around for an armbar but Loco sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hole's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Hole (3) vs (2) Loco Loco tries to free his leg and advance position but Hole is retaining full guard.
Hole is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Loco defends well. Loco pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hole is keeping the position for now. Hole is trying to control the position from the bottom.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Loco looking to pass the guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hole holds on and takes a little breather. Loco wants to control from the top but Hole keeps moving. Loco looking to pass the guard. Loco wants to control from the top but Hole keeps moving.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Hole pulls Loco in to control the position.
Hole is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Loco is aware though and is defending well. Loco trying to control the position from guard on top but Hole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Loco must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Loco looking to pass the guard. Loco advances to half guard. Hole is looking to get back to full guard here but Loco has managed to pass to side control instead. Score +3 for passing guard: Hole (3) vs (5) Loco Loco is looking to take a break and control but Hole is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Hole is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Beating a Dead Horse to Death Again, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Hole manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Hole wants to sweep but Loco has passed to side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Hole (3) vs (8) Loco Hole manages to work his way to half guard, despite Loco's best efforts. Hole makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hole. Hole has his hands on Loco's head, controlling the position. Loco won't allow Hole to sweep him here.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Hole has his hands on Loco's head, controlling the position. Hole is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Hole manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Loco manages to get himself to full guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Hole (5) vs (8) Loco Hole is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Hole passes into half guard. Hole is figuring out what he wants to do next.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Hole passes to full mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Hole (8) vs (8) Loco Hole tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Loco wants to control but Hole is having none of it. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Hole tries to control but Loco wriggling away. Hole looking to control and managing it successfully. Hole is stalling here but it's allowed Loco to get half guard.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Hole trying to control the action but Loco is working from the bottom. Loco trying to control here.
Loco is refusing to be controlled, as Hole sits in half guard. Loco trying to hold on to Hole's head to control him but Hole postures up.
Loco is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Hole with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Hole seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Loco for as long as he can get away with.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Loco is concentrating on defense, preventing Hole from advancing position. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hole in particular looking to stall. Hole is trying to control the action in half guard but Loco is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Hole seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Hole wants to free his trapped foot but Loco is holding on for dear life with his legs. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! As we have tied on points, we go to a tie breaker and Hole gets a bonus point for attempting more subs. Hole takes the fight on points by 9 to 8.
