The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovalchuk throws a body punch but Madden moves out of range.

Kovalchuk is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Kovalchuk wants to pass the guard but Madden is keeping the position.
Madden seems to have got his legs back now.

Madden is staying active underneath Kovalchuk, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
