Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ash Stevenson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Damion Mercado!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Roberts and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercado throws a hook to the side of Stevenson's head but Stevenson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Stevenson swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Mercado is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Stevenson tries to bum rush Mercado with a series of wild strikes but Mercado uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Stevenson misses with a series of wild punches.
Stevenson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mercado momentarily.
Stevenson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mercado circles away quickly and effectively.
Stevenson misses with an uppercut. Mercado saw that one coming.
Ash Stevenson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mercado explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stevenson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mercado.

Stevenson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Stevenson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Mercado is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Mercado stands up over Stevenson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Mercado wants to pass the guard but Stevenson is keeping the position.
Mercado stays in close to Stevenson's body and controls the position.
Stevenson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Stevenson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Mercado has passed into side control.

Mercado is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Stevenson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mercado goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Stevenson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mercado but great work by Stevenson.

That was a close round but I would say that Ash Stevenson will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Mercado shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Damion Mercado is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Stevenson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mercado is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mercado lands a nice short elbow.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mercado drops an elbow to the side of Stevenson's head.
Mercado looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Well, if Mercado is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight� I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza� Yum. Can't wait.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Stevenson cracks Mercado with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Stevenson misses with a left hand
and Mercado counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Stevenson scores with a jab. Mercado acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Stevenson crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mercado - the referee stops the clock and Stevenson gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mercado. Stevenson manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Mercado goes for a takedown attempt but Stevenson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mercado can do anything to dispel that myth.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ash Stevenson will probably get the nod.

Mercado escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Stevenson went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Mercado drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stevenson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stevenson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stevenson!
