Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kid Miller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, michael woodhead! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Miller as woodhead shoots in. Miller throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A head kick misses from Miller. Miller misses with an uppercut. woodhead is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Miller misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Miller misses with a double jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. woodhead misses with a takedown attempt - Miller sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Excellent takedown into side control there by Miller.
That's one minute gone in the round. woodhead is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Miller asserts his dominance and retains side control. woodhead trying to remain calm as Miller controls from the top position. Miller seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down woodhead for as long as he can get away with. woodhead pushes Miller away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Miller gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. woodhead is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. woodhead is letting Miller control him for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. woodhead is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Miller is trying to get an arm triangle but woodhead is defending well. Miller is looking to take a break and control but woodhead is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. woodhead is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Miller working the body and head with strikes. woodhead is trying to buck Miller off. woodhead looks gassed! woodhead throws Miller to one side and escapes! woodhead chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Miller can pounce on him.
woodhead doesn't succeed with the takedown and Miller counters with a big head kick but woodhead shrugs it off. Kid Miller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of michael woodhead.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miller throws a head kick that woodhead semi-blocks.
Miller lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Miller goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Miller forces woodhead back against the cage and clinches. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kid Miller dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Miller throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Miller tries a head kick but it misses.
Miller misses with a jab, cross combination.
A good leg kick by Miller. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. woodhead has his takedown stuffed and Miller counters with a big head kick but woodhead shrugs it off. woodhead is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. woodhead doesn't succeed with the takedown and Miller counters with a nice low kick that buckles woodhead's knee momentarily. Jab, jab by Miller - just one landing. Miller lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but woodhead circles away quickly and effectively. woodhead gets caught flat footed, as Miller shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miller showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Miller stops woodhead from standing up. Miller is stalling in the full guard. woodhead is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Miller controlling from the top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. woodhead is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Miller dives into side control.
Miller working the head and body with strikes. woodhead wants to get back to his feet but Miller is dominant here and he's now got woodhead's back! You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
woodhead is trying to stand back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Miller is working the ground and pound. Can woodhead escape? woodhead is trying to get to his feet but he's left his neck exposed and Miller manages to sink in a rear naked choke! Great counter grappling by Miller!
