Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Hammer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Johnson! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson stuffs the takedown. Johnson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hammer as he avoids it easily. Hammer gets a takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson is looking to improve his position.
Hammer is thwarting Johnson's attempts to control the position. Johnson wants to improve his position but Hammer is controlling well.
Hammer is tying to control. Johnson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Hammer is pressing down on Johnson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Johnson is holding on for now. Johnson tries to kick Hammer off but Hammer keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammer lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Johnson trying to control from the bottom.
Hammer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working. Hammer trying to pass the guard but Johnson defending well. Johnson is doing well to control the position and prevent Hammer from advancing to side control. Hammer is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Johnson has managed to free his arm - good work. Johnson regains full guard. Nicely done.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Johnson wants to stand but Hammer is controlling the position. Hammer decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Johnson, up you get! Johnson connects with a single shot there. Johnson lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Hammer is rocked! Johnson throws a nasty head kick that just misses. He throws another kick to the head of his opponent and almost takes it off! Hammer crumples to the floor and the fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Michael Johnson!
