PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Bridges (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Muay Thai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bridges kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ziggy Marley - true to myself. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thai throws a wild body kick that Bridges sees coming a mile off.
Bridges throws a body kick that misses.
Muay Thai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thai is looking to clinch but Bridges is avoiding it.
Thai misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bridges fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Bridges shoots for a double leg takedown but Thai sprawls well. He's pushed Bridges's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Thai throws a head kick that misses.
Bridges throws a chopping leg kick but Thai manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Thai throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Thai really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bridges. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bridges looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Bridges wants to control the pace but Thai is squirming around nicely.

Bridges is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Thai can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Bridges wants to take his opponent's back but Thai doesn't allow it.

Bridges looking for a guillotine from mount but Thai is having none of it.
Bridges avoids the attempt from Thai to control.

Bridges is going olschool here, as he tries to force Thai to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Thai shrugs it off.

That was a close round but I would say that Jeff Bridges will probably get the nod.

and Bridges counters with a shoot takedown. Thai fights it but they end up in guard.

Thai wants to stand up but Bridges is controlling him.

Bridges is pushing down on Thai's leg trying to pass to half guard. Thai is fighting to maintain full guard but Bridges has managed to sneak the leg through.
Bridges wants to control but Thai is keeping him busy.

Bridges works his foot free and advances to mount.
Bridges fails to advance to Thai's back.
Bridges is working hard here to advance position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bridges wants to finish this one by submission but Thai is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Bridges.

Bridges is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Thai has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Bridges goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Thai turns into him and now he's in Bridges's guard.

Thai stays in close to Bridges's body and controls the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bridges is working an open guard so Thai takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Thai throws a low kick but Bridges avoids it.
Thai throws a sloppy head kick

and Bridges counters by clinching up.
Bridges fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Bridges is trying to drag Thai to the mat but Thai just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Thai escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Thai throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Thai circles away from the clinch attempt.
Thai lands a head kick. Bridges smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Bridges looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Thai is fending him off so far but Bridges persists. Nope, Thai circles away and we're back to standing.
Thai tries to clinch up but Bridges circles away and keeps his distance.
Bridges checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Thai misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Muay Thai will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Bridges throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bridges fails to land the takedown.
Bridges with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Thai to score with a decent uppercut.
Thai tries to score with a low kick but Bridges moves his leg out of the way.
Jeff Bridges is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Thai throws a head kick that misses.
Thai ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bridges moves away.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Thai, as that shot connected.
No luck for Bridges with that takedown attempt.
Bridges closes the distance and clinches up with Thai, looking for a takedown. Bridges pushes Thai against the cage but Thai circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Bridges keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Thai's efforts to push away.

Bridges jumps guard and drags Thai to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Bridges bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Thai's guard.
Bridges passes into half guard.

Bridges has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Thai defend it? Bridges steps over the head and cranks it - Thai is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Bridges!
