Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Pattenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Toombs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pattenson's entrance music is 4 my town. A fine choice. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Patrick Pattenson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joseph Toombs!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Toombs tries to clinch there but Pattenson circles away.
Pattenson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Toombs moves into the clinch.
Toombs throws a knee to the head but misses.
Toombs has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Pattenson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Pattenson has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Toombs clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Can Toombs hold on?! Pattenson is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Pattenson wants to control but Toombs is keeping busy.

Pattenson working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Toombs tries to escape but Pattenson has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Toombs just trying to survive but Pattenson is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Pattenson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Toombs has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Toombs manages to reverse the position and now he's in Pattenson's guard. Nice work there by Toombs.

Toombs got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pattenson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Toombs has managed to get both his arms back between Pattenson's legs - danger averted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Toombs forces Pattenson back against the ropes and clinches.

Toombs keeping moving, preventing Pattenson from controlling successfully.
Pattenson passes Toombs's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Toombs is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Toombs is looking to control Pattenson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Toombs avoid being mounted?
Pattenson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Pattenson is looking for a kimura but Toombs is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pattenson to get the leverage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Toombs is not content to let Pattenson control the position.

Pattenson looks to land a strike but Toombs avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Pattenson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Toombs's guard now.

Pattenson looking to sit in guard and control but Toombs gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Pattenson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Toombs drops back looking for a leg! Pattenson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pattenson manages to kick Toombs off! Toombs jumps back into Pattenson's guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Toombs throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pattenson was covering up waiting for the punch and Toombs finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Toombs wants to control from the top but Pattenson keeps moving.
Toombs must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Toombs drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pattenson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pattenson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pattenson!

Pattenson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Toombs rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Pattenson's guard! Nice work there by Toombs!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Toombs advances to half guard.

Pattenson tries to get to full guard but Toombs has control of the leg.
Pattenson trying to hold on to Toombs's head to control him but Toombs postures up.

Pattenson is trying to keep Toombs in close.

Pattenson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Toombs wants to pass the guard but Pattenson is keeping the position.

Pattenson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Toombs doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Toombs manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Toombs tries a head kick but it misses.
Patrick Pattenson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pattenson swats away the attempt to clinch by Toombs.
Toombs fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Toombs gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pattenson to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Pattenson wants to control from the top but Toombs keeps moving.

A close third round but Joseph Toombs just about did enough to take it.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Pattenson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Toombs sprawls well. Toombs wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pattenson gets slowly back to his feet.
Toombs tries to clinch but Pattenson moves out of range.
Toombs throws a head kick that misses.

Pattenson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Toombs looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Pattenson swings around for an armbar but Toombs sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Pattenson's guard.
Toombs passes Pattenson's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Pattenson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Toombs pulls his head out easily.
Toombs is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Toombs is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pattenson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Toombs.

Pattenson is looking to control Toombs's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pattenson avoid being mounted?
Pattenson wants to improve his position but Toombs is controlling well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pattenson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Toombs is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Toombs looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Pattenson!

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joseph Toombs dominated that fourth round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Toombs counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Toombs looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pattenson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Patrick Pattenson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pattenson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Toombs dives on top into guard.
Toombs is in close to Pattenson's body, working some short punches and elbows.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joseph Toombs comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Toombs has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
