The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida staying out of range there.
Pettimore swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Pettimore thuds his right hand into Machida's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
It looks like Lyoto Machida has been cut.
Pettimore throws a chopping leg kick but Machida manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Machida closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pettimore circles away.
Pettimore catches Machida napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Machida to the canvas!

Pettimore cracks Machida with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Machida looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Pettimore finish him?
Pettimore throws a jab when Machida was well out of range.
Lawrence Pettimore seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pettimore fails to land with a series of punches.
Pettimore throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Machida on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

A solid leg kick lands there for Pettimore.
Pettimore pivots, looking for a leg kick but Machida is out of range and Pettimore settles back down.
Machida takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Pettimore throws out a loose jab but Machida uses good head movement to avoid it.

Pettimore throws a nice looking combination but Machida bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Pettimore looks to score with a jab to the body but Machida is just out of range.

Nice defenses there by Machida.
Machida gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Machida checks a low kick from Pettimore.
Pettimore throws a low kick, looking for Machida's leg but Machida calmly moves out of range.
Pettimore rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Machida moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Pettimore throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Machida stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Pettimore fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A lazy left from Pettimore finds it's target.

Machida closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Machida is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pettimore is staying active underneath Machida, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pettimore tries to kick Machida off but Machida keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Machida is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lawrence Pettimore dominated that round.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pettimore wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Pettimore throws a hook to the side of Machida's head but Machida sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Machida moves out of range as Pettimore strikes.
Machida feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Pettimore's calf.

Machida gets the takedown into side control.
Machida is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Pettimore looks calm but he's in trouble here. Machida gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Pettimore is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Machida lets go of the hold and Pettimore can pop his arm back in it's socket.
