3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kiyah Matsumoto! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joey Moon! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matsumoto gets caught flat footed, as Moon shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Moon postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Matsumoto is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Moon, into his guard. Moon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Matsumoto controls the pace. Moon looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Matsumoto has picked Moon up and slammed him! Moon can't keep hold of the triangle and Matsumoto manages to pass to side control! Matsumoto in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Sloppy strikes there by Matsumoto. Matsumoto trying to control the position but Moon is working away. Matsumoto has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. A close round but Joey Moon will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Matsumoto swings and misses with a hook to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matsumoto misses with a takedown and Moon counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Matsumoto thinking. Matsumoto feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Matsumoto not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Moon has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Matsumoto is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Moon. Matsumoto gets to mount! Moon was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Matsumoto landing strikes from the mount and Moon is in trouble! Matsumoto blocks Moon's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Moon tries to hold on but Matsumoto postures up.

Moon is looking to improve his position but Matsumoto isn't that keen on the idea. Matsumoto sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Matsumoto seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Matsumoto has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Moon wants to improve his position but Matsumoto is controlling well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Matsumoto gets a takedown into half guard. Kiyah Matsumoto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Moon on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Moon wants to control but Matsumoto is keeping busy.

Matsumoto with a poor takedown and Moon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Matsumoto fails with the takedown and Moon counters with an inside leg kick. Moon shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Matsumoto tries to roll over but Moon keeps him under control. Moon is trying to control. Matsumoto wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Matsumoto has his hands clasped together around Moon's back. He's all about the action. Ground and pound from Moon. Matsumoto tries to get to full guard but Moon has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Moon connects with a nice short shot to Matsumoto's temple. Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt. Moon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Matsumoto's head. Moon prevents Matsumoto from improving his position. Moon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Matsumoto bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Moon's guard.

Moon is looking for a sweep. Matsumoto working the ground and pound. Moon struggling a bit here. Matsumoto controls the position. Matsumoto working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Moon is looking to reverse the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Matsumoto can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Moon is looking to escape. Moon is wriggling around trying to escape.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kiyah Matsumoto. I think Matsumoto has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
