Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joshua Sewell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fedor Emelianenko! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Emelianenko tries to close the distance and clinch but Sewell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Emelianenko is looking to clinch. Sewell tries to clinch up. Emelianenko shoots in looking for a takedown. Sewell tries to sprawl out of it but Emelianenko keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sewell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Sewell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sewell showed some decent athleticism there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Emelianenko flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Emelianenko tries to roll over but Sewell keeps him under control. Emelianenko is holding on to half guard well. Emelianenko tries to get to full guard but Sewell has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emelianenko is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sewell's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sewell's back! Emelianenko wants to control but Sewell is keeping busy. Emelianenko has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Sewell's body.
Emelianenko is working for a rear naked choke. Sewell is not defending it well and Emelianenko has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Sewell refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Sewell's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Fedor Emelianenko!
