PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Robbie Dyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and john rock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying rock's choice of entrance music: my god. The key to victory for Robbie Dyer has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robbie Dyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, john rock!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
rock shoots in for a takedown but Dyer shows good takedown defense.
A jab lands there for Dyer.

rock gets the takedown into side control.
Dyer wants to get back to his feet but rock drags him back down.
rock grinds an elbow into Dyer's temple.
Dyer is looking to work his way out of this bad position but rock is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
rock is staying tight to Dyer's torso, preventing him from escaping.
rock trying to control the action but Dyer is working from the bottom.
Dyer wants to get back to his feet.
rock moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
rock is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dyer wants to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dyer shoots in but no luck this time.
Dyer fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
rock dodges the punch combination from Dyer.
Dyer throws a shot from downtown. rock moves away and avoids it.
rock showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Dyer.
rock misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nice sprawl there from Dyer as rock shoots in.
rock looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Robbie Dyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of john rock.

and rock counters by moving into the clinch.
Dyer is trying to break free.

rock has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Dyer regains guard immediately.
rock passes into half guard.
Dyer is looking to escape.
rock is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Dyer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
rock wants to pass to mount but Dyer is defending the position.

rock trying to control the action but Dyer is working from the bottom.
Dyer looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dyer is looking to get back to is feet but rock passes into side control.
rock tries to score with some ground and pound. Dyer controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Dyer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for rock on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

rock clinches.
rock is pushing Dyer up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Dyer is trying to break the clinch but rock has him pressed against the cage.

rock has clasped his hands together around Dyer's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
rock is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Dyer's shoulder. That is not cool.
rock trying to control the action but Dyer is working from the bottom.
Dyer prevents rock from improving position.
rock wants to control but Dyer is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

john rock dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Dyer catches rock with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

and Dyer counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps rock thinking.
rock stuffs the takedown attempt from Dyer. Dyer gets slowly back to his feet.
Robbie Dyer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dyer lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Dyer misses with a series of wild punches.
Dyer throws a series of punches but rock avoids them all with ease.
Dyer works over rock's head and body with a nice combination.
Dyer lands a slapping body shot.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dyer connects with a jab.
Dyer lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Dyer throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
A left and a right from Dyer both land. Nice combination.
rock fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Dyer rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but rock moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Dyer misses with a double jab.
Dyer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Dyer shoots in but no luck this time.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robbie Dyer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Dyer or perhaps it was just good defense by rock which made him look bad.
Dyer moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
rock shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dyer as he jumps to the side.

rock uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dyer.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dyer stalks rock and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into rock's face. rock staggers backwards, shaken.
Dyer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but rock circles away quickly and effectively.
rock wants to clinch up but Dyer keeps it at a distance.
Dyer fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
rock is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Dyer has his takedown stuffed

and rock counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
rock manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
rock lands an elbow inside.
rock stalling in the clinch but Dyer improves position.
rock wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Dyer wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but rock has him pressed against the cage.

rock's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That was a close second round but I would say that Robbie Dyer will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


rock tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dyer swivels and escapes.
rock changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dyer tries to avoid it but rock manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dyer to the ground. Dyer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dyer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Dyer throws a nice looking combination but rock bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Dyer lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Dyer works the jab nicely.
Dyer throws a right hand that rock ducks under and follows up with a left that rock also avoids with ease.

and rock counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dyer!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
rock looking to control and managing it successfully.

rock has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Dyer's face.
rock tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
rock thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Dyer wants to get back to his feet.
rock content just to control the position here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

rock wants to finish this one by submission but Dyer is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from rock.
rock looking to finish with strikes here!
rock trying to control but he's not successful this time.
rock thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

rock trying to control but Dyer is having none of it.
Dyer wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

rock unloads with some shots from mount but Dyer bucks and avoids them well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Dyer is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
rock landing punches.
Dyer really wants to buck rock off and get back to his feet.
Dyer trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
rock controlling his opponent.
rock won't let Dyer get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

john rock comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think rock has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
