Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed scores with a jab to the body.

Mir drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Mir looking to pass the guard.
Reed tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Reed working for a triangle but Mir defends it easily.
Mir throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Mir gets to his feet - Reed follows without any prompting.
Mir lands with a thumping leg kick.

Mir shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Mir was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mir fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reed manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Mir is looking for a kimura here.

Mir seems to be looking for submissions.
Mir looks gassed!

Mir is working for a kimura but Reed is defending it quite comfortably.

Mir is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mir prevents Reed from improving his position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mir is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Reed gets back to full guard.
Reed seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mir looking to pass the guard.

Reed is looking for a triangle but Mir pushes his legs off easily.

Mir drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mir jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mir wants to pass the guard but Reed is keeping the position.
Mir stands and throws Reed's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mir scores with punches from side control.

Mir has hold of Reed's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Reed tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Mir cranks the arm and Reed screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Reed, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Frank Mir!
