PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Inamen Rexus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitus Peering (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peering is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Saint Vitus Dance. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Inamen Rexus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vitus Peering!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A shot in the inside from Rexus.

Peering gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Rexus wants to improve his position but Peering is controlling well.

Rexus actively working from the bottom here.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Peering in particular looking to stall.
Rexus manages to get to full guard.
Peering stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rexus swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rexus isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Peering stacks Rexus on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Peering!
Rexus tries to buck Peering off but Peering is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rexus taking a bit of punishment here - Peering scoring with strikes.
Rexus is looking to regain half guard here but Peering keeps moving and retains side control.
Peering tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Rexus wants to get back to his feet but Peering drags him back down.
Rexus tries to buck Peering off but Peering is having none of it.
Peering trying to control the action but Rexus is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rexus wants to control but Peering postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rexus closes the distance but Peering moves to the side

and Peering counters by moving into the clinch.
Peering has Rexus pressed against the cage, preventing Rexus from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Peering has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Rexus clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Peering looks gassed!
Rexus tries to roll but Peering sticks to his back.
Peering lands punches and elbows.
Rexus trying to control the position but Peering manages to sink in the hooks.
Rexus controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Peering landing with strikes.
Peering trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Rexus doesn't escape.
Rexus has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Rexus controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Rexus tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rexus tries to reverse the position but Peering maintains control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Peering lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Rexus wants to hold on but Peering pushes him away.
Rexus trying desperately to get to his feet.
BOOM! Peering connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Rexus is trying to escape the mount.
Rexus is trying to stand.
Rexus keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rexus bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Peering wants to sweep here but Rexus controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vitus Peering dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Rexus connects with a high kick.

Rexus closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rexus lands in his opponent's guard.
Rexus postures up.
Rexus looking to pass the guard.
Rexus won't allow Peering to sweep him here.
Peering bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rexus's guard.
Peering pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rexus is keeping the position for now.
Rexus wants to stand but Peering is controlling the position.
Peering is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Peering got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rexus has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Peering has managed to get both his arms back between Rexus's legs - danger averted.
Rexus tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rexus lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Peering!

Rexus looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Rexus trying to control but Peering is having none of it.
Peering keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rexus swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Peering is now in Rexus's guard. A big mistake from Rexus there, giving up the dominant position!

Peering decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rexus, up you get!
Rexus tries to clinch

and Peering counters with a takedown into side control.
Rexus is looking to reverse the position.

Peering swings around for an armbar but Rexus sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Peering's guard.
Rexus trying to control but Peering is working from the bottom.
Rexus in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Peering is trying to keep Rexus in close.
Rexus is looking to stand up but Peering won't let him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rexus lands a couple of digs.
Rexus scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Rexus trying to control but Peering is working from the bottom.
Vitus Peering has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rexus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Peering swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Rexus misses with a takedown attempt
and Peering counters with a left to the body.
Rexus tries to close the distance and clinch up but Peering swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Peering decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rexus tries to get to full guard but Peering has control of the leg.
Rexus is trying to stand up here but Peering is controlling him well.
Peering wants to control but Rexus is keeping him busy.
Rexus gets back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Peering wants to pass the guard but Rexus is keeping the position.
Rexus keeping moving, preventing Peering from controlling successfully.

Peering avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Rexus is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Peering defends well.

Peering drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rexus dives on top into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Inamen Rexus will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Rexus misses with a takedown

and Peering counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rexus won't be happy with that.
Rexus wants to get back to his feet.
Peering is working Rexus over with some ground and pound from side control.
Rexus is trying to buck Peering off.
Rexus is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Peering advances to mount.
Rexus is trying to escape the mount.
Peering breaks from Rexus's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Peering takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rexus sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Rexus looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Rexus gets back to full guard.
Peering preventing the sweep.
Peering passes into half guard.
Peering performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Peering throws a strike but Rexus avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Rexus wants to control the position but Peering says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Rexus wants to get back to his feet.
Rexus is trying to control but can't.
Peering thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rexus's head.

Rexus makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Rexus tries to clinch up but Peering circles away and keeps his distance.
Rexus shoots and misses

and Peering counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Peering stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rexus swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rexus wants to sweep but no luck.

Rexus has his feet on Peering's thighs here. He's pushed Peering off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Peering screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
