PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jada Kiss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Rawlings (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rawlings comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hells Bells kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Jada Kiss has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jada Kiss seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jada Kiss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Rawlings!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rawlings tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kiss was well out of range. Poor timing from Rawlings.
Kiss tries to clinch up but Rawlings circles away and keeps his distance.
Rawlings swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kiss blocks a jab.
Kiss throws a series of punches but Rawlings avoids them all with ease.

Rawlings closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kiss to the mat! Kiss manages to get full guard.
Kiss keeping moving, preventing Rawlings from controlling successfully.
Rawlings scoring with some ground and pound.
Rawlings looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rawlings passes Kiss's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Rawlings throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kiss is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rawlings tries to pass to full mount but Kiss defends it.

Rawlings is looking to pass Kiss's guard but actually Kiss recovers to full guard.
Rawlings won't allow Kiss to get back to his feet.
Rawlings wants to pass the guard but Kiss is keeping the position.

Rawlings thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kiss is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kiss is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rawlings's half guard.

Rawlings is not content to let Kiss control the position.
Rawlings makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rawlings.
Kiss missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Rawlings is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rawlings is nestled in close to Kiss, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Rawlings throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Kiss pushes Rawlings off looking to stand but Rawlings dives back in and keeps control.
Rawlings is thwarting Kiss's attempts to control the position.

Kiss is breathing heavily.

Rawlings throws some wild stikes that Kiss manages to avoid easily.

Rawlings goes for an armbar but Kiss turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Kiss.
Rawlings has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kiss is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Kiss loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kiss closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rawlings circles away.
Rawlings jabbing away but nothing is landing.

and Kiss moves into the clinch.
Rawlings gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kiss.

Rawlings breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kiss keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rawlings is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kiss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiss will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jada Kiss. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kiss distracts Rawlings with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Kiss wants to control from the top but Rawlings keeps moving.
Rawlings manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Rawlings with shots to the head and body - Kiss looks very uncomfortable down there.
Kiss wants to control but Rawlings is having none of it.
Rawlings throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Kiss because Rawlings loaded up on that one.
You get the feeling that Kiss really doesn't like being in this position too much.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rawlings raining down shots from the mount!
Rawlings avoids the attempt from Kiss to control.
Rawlings putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Rawlings wants to finish this one by submission but Kiss is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rawlings.

Rawlings looking to land elbow strikes but Kiss uses the position to regain half guard.
Kiss won't allow Rawlings to pass to mount.
Kiss is looking to escape.
Rawlings sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kiss defending well though.
Kiss has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rawlings is working away from the top position though.
Kiss is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rawlings is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kiss tries to clinch up but Rawlings circles away and keeps his distance.
Jack Rawlings seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kiss avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Rawlings scores with a spinning back kick!
Rawlings shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kiss as he avoids it easily.
Kiss dives in and grabs Rawlings's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rawlings pushes down on Kiss's head and hops out.
Kiss shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rawlings pinned against the cage. Rawlings gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rawlings throws a good cross that connects.
Rawlings shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Kiss counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Kiss won't allow Rawlings to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jada Kiss will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Kiss ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kiss takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Kiss is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Kiss scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Kiss throws a big right hand that misses.

Kiss drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kiss jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rawlings bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kiss's guard.

Kiss is trying to keep Rawlings in close.

Rawlings is working Kiss over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Rawlings is looking for a sweep.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

I would just about give that final round to Jack Rawlings.
I think Rawlings has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
