PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Justin Page (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and brock lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Page!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, brock lesnar!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

lesnar gets caught flat footed, as Page shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Page trying to control but lesnar is working from the bottom.
Page tries to stand but lesnar is controlling from the bottom.
lesnar is trying to control the position from the bottom.
lesnar keeping moving, preventing Page from controlling successfully.
Page stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. lesnar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Page trying to stand up but can't free himself from lesnar's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
lesnar trying to keep a closed guard but Page is proving a slippery customer.
Page will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Page rushes lesnar and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
lesnar has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
With the fighters up against the cage, Page throws an elbow but misses.
Page wants to break the clinch but can't.

lesnar escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
lesnar throws a wild body kick that Page sees coming a mile off.
lesnar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Page paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Page on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by lesnar. lesnar obviously looking to wear him down.
Page throws a right hand that lesnar ducks under and follows up with a left that lesnar also avoids with ease.
Page looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Page looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

lesnar looking for submissions off his back.
lesnar tries to kick Page off but Page keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Page is trying to control. lesnar wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
lesnar is looking for a sweep. Page is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
lesnar trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Page sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
lesnar tries to buck Page off but Page takes his back!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Page controlling the position well here. lesnar rolled but Page kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
lesnar tries to escape the position.
Page knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for lesnar on the ground.
lesnar is covering up but some of the strikes from Page are getting through and doing damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Page's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Page is riding his opponent, not letting lesnar buck him off.
lesnar tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
lesnar is working to get back to half guard.
lesnar looks gassed!
Page moves to back control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin Page dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Page scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Page closes the distance but lesnar moves to the side

and lesnar decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Page's guard.

lesnar should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

lesnar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Page has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, lesnar has managed to get both his arms back between Page's legs - danger averted.
lesnar trying to stand up but can't free himself from Page's guard.
Page is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Page is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Justin Page just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
A head kick misses from lesnar.

lesnar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Page looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
lesnar is breathing heavily.
Page tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but lesnar wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Page keeps lesnar under control for a moment.
Page tries to bench press lesnar off him but lesnar keeps the position.

lesnar stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Horrible takedown by Page or perhaps it was just good defense by lesnar which made him look bad.
Page tries to clinch there but lesnar circles away.

lesnar has a takedown stuffed.

Page closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Page working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Page trying to control from half guard but lesnar is working away.
Page trying to control the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Page seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down lesnar for as long as he can get away with.
lesnar is looking to control Page's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can lesnar avoid being mounted?
Justin Page overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ground and pound from Page.
Page prevents lesnar from improving his position.
Page trying to control the action but lesnar is working from the bottom.
lesnar tries to roll over but Page keeps him under control.
Page is taking a breather. lesnar says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
lesnar taking some punishment here, with Page in his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but brock lesnar will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Page closes the distance and clinches up with lesnar, looking for a takedown. Page pushes lesnar against the cage but lesnar circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Page misses with a takedown attempt - lesnar sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
lesnar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Page keeps the fight on the outside.
A head kick by Page misses

and lesnar counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
lesnar tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
The is referee keeping an eye on lesnar - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
lesnar is trying to drag Page to the mat but Page just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
lesnar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Page gets through lesnar's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
lesnar tries for a takedown but Page manages to get underhooks.

Page breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Justin Page is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Page fails with the takedown

and lesnar counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by lesnar.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Page. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Page wants to get back to his feet but lesnar is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Page has control of lesnar's left arm, preventing lesnar from doing any damage.

Page tries to roll over but lesnar keeps him under control.
Page is staying active underneath lesnar, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Page wants to control the action here but instead lesnar manages to pass to full mount!
Page is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
lesnar tries to control but Page wriggling away.
Page is trying to escape the mount.

lesnar thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Page tries to hold on but lesnar pushes him away.
Page is looking to get to half guard.
Page is squirming around, avoiding lesnar's attempts to control the action.
Page is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Page blocking the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Page is looking to get to half guard.
Page tries to lock up and control but lesnar gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Page is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because lesnar is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Page keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
brock lesnar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think lesnar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
