Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Hobbs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hobbs scores with a takedown into Johnson's guard.
Johnson wants to stand and escape but Hobbs is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hobbs loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hobbs is pushing down on Johnson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Johnson is fighting to maintain full guard but Hobbs has managed to sneak the leg through.

Hobbs is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Hobbs decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Johnson throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Hobbs's head.
Johnson lands the left hand.
Johnson scores with a shot to the body.
Johnson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hobbs shoots in looking for a takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl out of it but Hobbs keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Johnson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hobbs throws the kick towards the body but Johnson avoids it.
Hobbs moves in looking to clinch but Johnson pushes him off.
The fighters circle momentarily. Johnson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Johnson wants to stand and escape but Hobbs is having none of it.

Hobbs tries to free his leg and advance position but Johnson is retaining full guard.
Johnson wants to stand up but Hobbs is controlling him.
Hobbs wants to pass the guard but Johnson is keeping the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Johnson wants to stand up but Hobbs is controlling him.
Hobbs wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Johnson swinging wilding here.
Jay Hobbs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hobbs looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Johnson throws a right hand that Hobbs ducks under and follows up with a left that Hobbs also avoids with ease.
Hobbs fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A lazy left from Johnson finds it's target.
Johnson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Johnson keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Hobbs closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Johnson did well to prevent Hobbs getting side control.

Hobbs decides to stand up.
Hobbs is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Hobbs is looking to chop away at Johnson's legs.
A head kick by Hobbs misses
and Johnson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Hobbs throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johnson's waist but Johnson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hobbs off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Hobbs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A combination from Johnson does no damage.
Hobbs takes one to the side of the head.
Johnson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hobbs is looking to chop away at Johnson's legs.
Johnson is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Hobbs pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Hobbs tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Johnson counters with a two punch combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Anthony Johnson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Johnson takes a swing at Hobbs's ribcage but misses.
Hobbs misses with a takedown
and Johnson counters with a nice uppercut.
A jab from Johnson finds it's way through Hobbs's defenses.
Hobbs checks the leg kick nicely there.

Hobbs darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hobbs scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hobbs. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hobbs is controlling the pace.

Johnson manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Johnson lands with a hook. Hobbs tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Jay Hobbs is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hobbs shoots in for a takedown but Johnson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Hobbs counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnson won't be happy with that.
Johnson wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Johnson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Hobbs is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Johnson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Johnson bucks up and tries to throw Hobbs off but instead Hobbs has got his back!
Johnson wants to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hobbs scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Johnson is looking for a way out.
Hobbs has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Johnson's body.

Hobbs is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Johnson is defending well though. Hobbs let's go of the attempt for now.
Johnson is trying to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hobbs punishes Johnson with strikes from the back mount.

Hobbs is looking for the choke from the back position but Johnson is controlling his hands well.
Johnson is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Hobbs is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Hobbs lands a shot to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hobbs has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Johnson is defending well but eventually Hobbs manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Johnson has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jay Hobbs!
