PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kody Corley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Slaughter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Corley might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Young Jeezy Ft. Akon-Soul Survivor. Kody Corley looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Slaughter!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Roberts and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slaughter shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Corley napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Corley tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Slaughter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Slaughter swings around for an armbar but Corley sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Slaughter's guard.

Slaughter had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Corley is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Slaughter Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Corley's back instead.

Corley rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Corley kicks Slaughter off and gets back to his feet.

and Slaughter counters by clinching up.
Slaughter fails to pull guard.
Slaughter has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Corley avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Corley gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Corley tries to stand but Slaughter is controlling from the bottom.
Slaughter wants to sweep but no luck.

Slaughter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Slaughter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Corley can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Slaughter is looking for a sweep. Corley is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Slaughter is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Joe Slaughter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Slaughter drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Slaughter jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Slaughter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Corley is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Corley has escaped and now he's on top!

Slaughter is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Corley is aware though and is defending well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Slaughter has his foot on Corley's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Corley works his way back into a safe position though.

Corley decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Corley throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Slaughter.

and Slaughter counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Corley's guard now.

Slaughter drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Corley manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Slaughter has Corley in his guard.

Corley stands and steps away. Slaughter gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Slaughter is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Corley can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Kody Corley has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Slaughter throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Slaughter has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Corley has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
