Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chucky Reyes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chuck Shogun! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Luis Engracia and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reyes throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Shogun avoids a punch combination nicely.
Reyes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Shogun closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Reyes to the mat! Reyes manages to get full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Reyes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shogun really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reyes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Reyes wants to stand and escape but Shogun is having none of it. Reyes trying to control the position.
Reyes throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Reyes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Reyes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Reyes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Reyes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reyes is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Shogun has his hands clasped together but Reyes extends an breaks Shogun's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Reyes.
