Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wayne Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Caio Silva! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Johnson is defended easily by Silva. Johnson tries to keep at a distance but Silva has taken the fight into the clinch. Johnson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Johnson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Silva walks away with a smile on his face. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wayne Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Johnson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva did well to prevent Johnson getting side control. Silva wants to sweep but Johnson has passed to side control! Silva is looking to reverse the position. Johnson blocks the strikes from Silva.
Johnson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Silva has escaped the position, nice work there. Silva is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Johnson is controlling him well. Johnson creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva is trying to control Johnson's posture but Johnson avoids it. Johnson slows the pace down. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson trying to control the action but Silva is working from the bottom. Johnson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Silva is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Silva tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Johnson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Johnson is staying tight to Silva's torso, preventing him from escaping. Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Silva is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Johnson is controlling him well. Silva is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Johnson's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Johnson! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Silva has tapped! This one is allllll over!
