The bell rings for round one and we are underway! N tries to bum rush Cunning with a series of wild strikes but Cunning uses good footwork to avoid the assault. N throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Kevin Cunning seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. N feints and then cracks Cunning's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Cunning down. N circles away from the clinch attempt.
N scores with a one two! Cunning had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. N throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Cunning throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. N was covering up waiting for the punch and Cunning finishes the takedown easily into guard. N looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
N is looking for a triangle but Cunning pushes his legs off easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cunning thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Cunning got a little sloppy there for a moment and N has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cunning has managed to get both his arms back between N's legs - danger averted. Cunning is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's one minute gone in the round. N is looking to sinch up a triangle. Cunning throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to N's body to avoid the submission. N has instead reached around Cunning's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! N arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Frank N!
